- Defoe’s A Journal of a Plague Year
- Richardson’s Pamela and Fielding’s Shamela
- Johnson’s The Life of Mr. Richard Savage
- Excerpts from The Spectator, TheTatler, The Female Tatler newspapers
- Letters and diary entries from writers including Samuel Pepys, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, Ignatius Sancho, James Boswell, and Frances Burney
- Poems of the country and the city and of daybreak and nightfall
