ENG 2070: World Mythologies with Leon Lewis

Classical Conceptions & Modern Manifestations

Travel through Space/Time on a journey of exploration as origins, deities, epic “hero figures,” legendary lands and emerging social constructions—from the earliest stirring of tribal groups to the formation of the Greek polis (City/State), and onward to the post-modern world—are revealed in the literature, film and oral expressions of creative artists throughout human history. The course will culminate with a focus on The Odyssey, and Christopher Nolan’s film (July, 2026)—the subject of extensive discussion concerning its representation of the Homeric epic, with an outstanding cast and very advanced technical resources—that indicates just how relevant Homer’s iconic story still is.
