ENG 3220: Environmental Rhetorics, with Dr. Savannah Paige Murray

Concerned about the climate? Want to know more about the history and future of environmentalism? This class is for you!

This 3000-level course offers students an introduction to environmental rhetoric with an emphasis on nature writing, environmental justice, and climate literacy in different cultural contexts informed by research in the environmental humanities, contemporary theories and methods in rhetoric, writing, and environmental activism. Students will engage deeply with several key topics in environmental rhetoric, such as sustainability, climate change, grassroots environmental resistance, and environmental protection. Throughout the course, students will study as well as compose a variety of genres associated with environmental rhetoric including nature writing, personal narratives, science writing, and environmental impact statements (EIS). Students will develop their rhetorical knowledge and awareness in order to craft communications that emphasize environmental justice, climate literacy, and resilience.
