English 5890- 20th Century British Literature: James Joyce's Ulysses

Dr. Carl Eby will be teaching this graduate level course in Fall of 2020. This class focuses on James Joyce's novel Ulysses and its profound impact on the modernist movement. As a sort of modern epic, and arguably the single most important novel of the 20th century, Ulysses provides extensive opportunity for engaged discussion regarding the complexity of meaning and stylistic innovations intwined within the prose. This course will also focus on modernism, Irish history and culture, and Joyce's interaction with topics like philosophy, theology, music, politics, aesthetics, and psychology.

Class will meet Wednesdays 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
