Living Poetry and The Poets Life
What does it mean to be a poet in 2026? How has our current digital age changed the way we interact with writing, publishing, and reading poetry? During our senior seminar workshop, we will investigate the ways in which poets existed, embodied, and reimagined their place in the world. We will explore writers that sought to build radical literary communities across the United States and abroad, like Amri Baraka, André Breton, Charles Olson, Roberto Bolaño, CD Wright, Alice Notley, and more. Using the context of their work as well as their aesthetic and socio-political ambitions, we will evaluate our current moment to construct a deeper understanding of how one should cultivate a life as a poet today. There will be plenty of chances for you to write your own poetry and develop a clearer vision for your poetic practice. Moreover, my goal is to expand your view of poetry, its history, the landscape, and nurture a lifelong creative practice you can take with you.
