In this class, we’ll explore American cinema from a unique angle: the specific places and ways in which we’ve watched movies since the 1890s. We’ll look at the histories of traveling exhibitors, nickelodeons, picture palaces, drive-ins, art cinemas, underground cinematheques, mallplexes, home video technologies (from Beta to streaming), microcinema, museums, film festivals, and more. Expect class visitors, fieldtrips, and the unexpected!
