We'll survey the major movements, movies, and creators of film's 130-year history. We'll explore the stages of American filmmaking—the "cinema of attractions," the origins of narrative filmmaking, the rise and fall of the classical Hollywood studios, the New American cinema, and the New Hollywood—and compare Hollywood aesthetics to very different work from countries like Germany, Russia, France, Italy, Japan, and Iran.
