ENG 3150: Approaches to Film and Media Studies with Dr. Craig Fischer

This class will be useful in two ways. First: we’ll explore the important ideas and methods in the history of film theory—realism, formalism, auteurism (with a focus on director Richard Linklater), genre study, star and performance studies, “political modernism,” and neoformalism. Second: this class will be your introduction to both the writing of your Capstone essay—a senior-level project that represents the culmination of your undergraduate work—and what happens after you graduate. We’ll discuss career paths that film studies can provide, including academic and non-academic jobs, and work based on the transferable skills you’ve developed taking English classes.
