During his thirty-eight year career at Appalachian, Dr Maiden has been committed to teaching and service. While working as an award-winning writing teacher and a specialist in American literature, Emory has also served in a variety of administrative roles. As a past co-founder of the Appalachian Writing Project, he wrote thirteen consecutive successful funding grants and served as the Summer Institute director. He presently serves as Director of the Summer Reading program for which incoming first-year students and other members of the university community read and discuss a common text.
